Another Season...

Well we are 4 games into the 08-09 WCHA season. A sweep over JBSU and 3 out of 4 against the Red Menace. Have they been tested? YUP. Have they delivered. YUP. Will it continue?
With all the frosh's on the team, time will tell.

This weekend brings us to St.Paul and the "charity hockey showcase". It is so named by this rube because of the pissing and moaning by those who root for the landcows.

Do you understand this is a financial windfall for your JR college? What is the capacity of your arena? Do the math.

On to northdacanada. Hummmmm... when will the fire Hakstol posts start over at itsalltherefsfault.com show up? Seeing what BU did to Red's boy's, the 5-1 drubbing the SUE took may be a sign of HockeyLeasts resurgence.
UNH has me re-thinking that after watching them last Sunday.

Wow.

I can't believe it has been this long since I posted anything. Not that you care but here is the reason...

A real freakin WINTER finally. Ice is decent. Snow is bountiful. Sled is running awesome and the shack is gettin used.

So how bout them Gophers. So much for a second half run. Lost to RIT. Tied the Fly Boys. Now the mighty Wayne State comes to town. They will look mighty against this Goof team. I see a long two months ahead. Real action starts next weekend. St.Clown Home and Home.

Sub .500 finish the rest of the way and fighting for home ice in the playoffs. The WCHA is down. tUMD in 3rd with a 5-6 record? Yikes.

In general this team is just not clicking. Not many bounces are going their way. Missed passes, sloppy D and suspect netminding. There seems to be little drive in this team.

Oh, did you hear Okposo left? That is a dead horse I'll leave alone. They had him for 11 games more then I though after last season. Not much of a loss considering his output. Good luck in the minors.

Did you catch the New Years day NHL game? Man that was cool. What a setting for a pro game. I normally don't follow the pro's that much, but that was a lot of fun to watch. Thank god we have a real winter. I helps to ease the pain.

The boys in Maroon and Gold are. They have fallen to the cellar of the WCHA. The WCHA is a tough league. You are not going to win many games scoring 1 goal. I'm not used to watching a Gopher team make so many bad passes, blind passes and my ever favorite, drop pass. They just seem to be missing the edge. Okposo looks confused and off balance. Last year he seemed all most impossible to take down or out of the play. This year one bump and "whoop" there goes the puck.

You can really see the D core getting way more work then needed. I think they missed 4 empty nets. EMPTY. You need to bury those when you can. 4GF and 14GA. Yikes!

0-4. Wow. Maybe this weekends tilt against the Landcows will pump some confidence into them. Pummeling a constant bottom dweller may well be what the doctor ordered. Then again, if they only get 1 goal they will lose!

Not that anybody cares much but I have been tied up in life and not much time for anything else. Finishing garage, cleaning gutters and all the horse crap.

I did catch the OSU tilt last night. For two periods the Goof's stuck it to the Buckeyes. But hockey has three periods. The third they looked like they were just hanging on and watching. Although Frazee was not really challenged for a good part of the game he seems more "settled" this year. Staying in the nets and not trying to make over the top plays away from the crease.

It is going to take a while for this team to mesh. The theme last night was "keep it simple" I hope this is in reference to all the behind the back and drop passes they have been doing. Okposo looks lost out there so far. Not sure if opponents are keying on him but he just has not shown any flash this season. I know it's early but he needs to wake up, as well as Barribal, if the Goof's have any chance at a title run.

In "other news" it seems as thought Suze is about to lose their name. This report on SUESports.com says that there may be a settlement in the case with the NC$$. Posters on italltherefsfault.com are slowly coming to grips with the fact that the name is going BYE-BYE. What will happen to the ralph? What will happen to all the Indian Heads that adorn the Reichstag? We have three short year to wait and find out.

I will be watching with interest the CC-UNH series. CC looked hungry last weekend. Although the games were close score wise, CC seemed to out hustle the boys for most of both games. It's early and CC should make some waves this year. So when the Pairwise(way to early in the season to bring up that word) comes out it should not hurt. The next two series will show what they are made of. At UNH and then to the ralph for two.

Good News, Bad News

The good news is the Goof's take the Ice-Breaker tourney with wins over RPI and Michigan. It should be MichAGAIN. Man, they have their number lately.

Friday's tilt pitted them against RPI. It was not a pretty two periods of hockey for the POI. RPI took it to them in every respect. They built a solid 3 goal lead through tough play and desire. Finally, the Goof's awoke from their slumber and at the end of the second period scored and the dominated the play until the horn.

Third period was ALL Minny. The one thing that really pissed me off was that 5 minute major handed out. They are back to calling these weak penalties if the guy turns at the last minute.

4-3 final and off to face MichAGAIN.

This was a much more entertaining game to watch. Back and forth trading blows. It ended on a goal at 5:27 by Grand Rapids star Patrick White.

Now the UGLY. 2 games into the season we lose Ryan Stoa to a knee injury. There are not a lot of specifics on the injury and I did not see it. Man I feel bad for him. He looked really strong and was set to be a leader.

Off to CC for conference opener. More on that later...

Sprint Ahead

So today is July 16th and STILL NO PHONE! I just got a post card that stated the phone was on back order!BACK ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I call to find out what is going on. Th nice lady tells me that the order was placed in the "old" system so the order automatically canceled. She starts the order process and my call drops!!!!!!!!!ARHHHGGGGGGGGG!

She did call back and the order has been placed. We'll see!!!!

So here's a little story about my recent dealings with Sprint. Last November I decided to upgrade my cell phone. Easy enough. Go in, pick a phone, sign up for another 2 year term and walla. "Got me one of dem der new fangled Moto Razors"

Everything was fine until LB decided to dump a full glass of OJ into it one morning. After the obligatory "drying" out period. It still worked. Kinda. Every time I closed the phone the fecker shut off! So I left it open which in turn, killed the battery. I toughed it out as long as I could.

A week ago I decided to run over to the Edina Sprint repair store and get it fixed. I left the phone and returned the next day. The rep comes out with a baggie that has a big LD written on it. LD you say, LIQUID DAMAGE!

Ooppps how did that happen? So I asked the "intelligent looking" rep what could be done. He replies, "nothing" NOTHING? "NOPE". I can't get a replacement? "Lemmi look" he says enthusiastically. Cool a guy who can get thing done.

As he stares blankly at the screen while typing I think wow what a cool company. After 10 plus years with them they are gonna hook me up!

I can give you 75 off a new razor! WOW 75 percent I say! NOPE, 75 dollars!

Let's see new razor 250. Take off 75 gets me to 175! Activation 30 bucks. 205!!!!!!!!!

So I say that's it? "YUP" he says. So after 10 plus years with you guys I can't get a better deal. NO.

So it would cost me 175 to break the 2 year deal, walk over to another wireless provider sign a contract get a phone for nothing and take my number with and you lose a customer. "Sorry that's all we can do."

So as I ponder my next move, I figure I'll give the Sprint a call. 1, 2, 3, 4 explanations later I get a gentleman in their "retention" department. Yes RETENTION! This is after number 3 heard me say T Mobile has a great deal on the MOTO Q and data plan I'll call them.

So Brad or whatever, listens to my rant and all I ask for is the same phone at their new customer price of 29.99 and I'm good. He says, sure pick ANY phone. HUMMMMMM....Any phone? YUP! MOTO Q is awseome. SURE. How much I ask? 99.99. Cool. 500 phone for a hondo!? Hook me up!

After a brief discussion about terms, conditions and other BS he says, "OK, order is in you'll have it in 1-3 days." SWEET a man who can get things done!

Today is my 7th day waiting. So I call back and get a different monkey. She says sir, "I'm sorry but I don't see an order for you." FERCHRISTSAKES! I yell. After a lot of LISTENING by her, notice I didn't say yelling by me, she assures me that my for is ordered and on the way.

Last night I decided to play with that little button right up there^ You know the one that sends you to random Blogger pages. Let me tell you there are VERY sick puppies out there. The most interesting one (if I can be so bold) was a girl, unknown age probably a teen. She had a eating disorder. She said she was 5-3 and 127 lbs. She could not stand herself or her body. She had a TON of posts spewing how much she hated her mother. There was also a few references to "ending it all"! Wow just wow. Do parents even monitor there kids computer usage?

This made me think about the whole blog thing. Hell, I do this for fun and to throw barbs at other teams fans. I never expected/wanted input from the general population. Just wanted to ramble and vent sometimes. I know that a lot of people hide behind the anonymity of the web. Is this good for people? To publicly purge your disgust for yourself and your family?

You hate like hell to see somebody going through so much angst and pain but do you dare comment on their blog hoping in some way to reach them? Or do you merely pass by like another person walking by you on the street? I choose to pass by.

Maybe this is "my" version of reality TV. Randomly reading other peoples life tales and misery. I'm not a fan of reality TV. I am embarrassed for those people and just can not stand to watch what kind of fools they make out of themselves. Yet reading some blogs makes me want to reach through the net and slap them into real life mode. But maybe that is their life and all it will be.

I will venture back and follow her tribulations. Kinda macabre but hey variety is the spice of life!

NATIONAL SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/NSPD 51

HOMELAND SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/HSPD-20

Subject: National Continuity Policy

Purpose

(1) This directive establishes a comprehensive national policy on the continuity of Federal Government structures and operations and a single National Continuity Coordinator responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of Federal continuity policies. This policy establishes "National Essential Functions," prescribes continuity requirements for all executive departments and agencies, and provides guidance for State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector organizations in order to ensure a comprehensive and integrated national continuity program that will enhance the credibility of our national security posture and enable a more rapid and effective response to and recovery from a national emergency.

Definitions

(2) In this directive:

(a) "Category" refers to the categories of executive departments and agencies listed in Annex A to this directive;

(b) "Catastrophic Emergency" means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions;

(c) "Continuity of Government," or "COG," means a coordinated effort within the Federal Government's executive branch to ensure that National Essential Functions continue to be performed during a Catastrophic Emergency;

(d) "Continuity of Operations," or "COOP," means an effort within individual executive departments and agencies to ensure that Primary Mission-Essential Functions continue to be performed during a wide range of emergencies, including localized acts of nature, accidents, and technological or attack-related emergencies;

(e) "Enduring Constitutional Government," or "ECG," means a cooperative effort among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Federal Government, coordinated by the President, as a matter of comity with respect to the legislative and judicial branches and with proper respect for the constitutional separation of powers among the branches, to preserve the constitutional framework under which the Nation is governed and the capability of all three branches of government to execute constitutional responsibilities and provide for orderly succession, appropriate transition of leadership, and interoperability and support of the National Essential Functions during a catastrophic emergency;

(f) "Executive Departments and Agencies" means the executive departments enumerated in 5 U.S.C. 101, independent establishments as defined by 5 U.S.C. 104(1), Government corporations as defined by 5 U.S.C. 103(1), and the United States Postal Service;

(g) "Government Functions" means the collective functions of the heads of executive departments and agencies as defined by statute, regulation, presidential direction, or other legal authority, and the functions of the legislative and judicial branches;

(h) "National Essential Functions," or "NEFs," means that subset of Government Functions that are necessary to lead and sustain the Nation during a catastrophic emergency and that, therefore, must be supported through COOP and COG capabilities; and

(i) "Primary Mission Essential Functions," or "PMEFs," means those Government Functions that must be performed in order to support or implement the performance of NEFs before, during, and in the aftermath of an emergency.

Policy

(3) It is the policy of the United States to maintain a comprehensive and effective continuity capability composed of Continuity of Operations and Continuity of Government programs in order to ensure the preservation of our form of government under the Constitution and the continuing performance of National Essential Functions under all conditions.

Implementation Actions

(4) Continuity requirements shall be incorporated into daily operations of all executive departments and agencies. As a result of the asymmetric threat environment, adequate warning of potential emergencies that could pose a significant risk to the homeland might not be available, and therefore all continuity planning shall be based on the assumption that no such warning will be received. Emphasis will be placed upon geographic dispersion of leadership, staff, and infrastructure in order to increase survivability and maintain uninterrupted Government Functions. Risk management principles shall be applied to ensure that appropriate operational readiness decisions are based on the probability of an attack or other incident and its consequences.

(5) The following NEFs are the foundation for all continuity programs and capabilities and represent the overarching responsibilities of the Federal Government to lead and sustain the Nation during a crisis, and therefore sustaining the following NEFs shall be the primary focus of

the Federal Government leadership during and in the aftermath of an emergency that adversely affects the performance of Government Functions:

(a) Ensuring the continued functioning of our form of government under the Constitution, including the functioning of the three separate branches of government;

(b) Providing leadership visible to the Nation and the world and maintaining the trust and confidence of the American people;

(c) Defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and preventing or interdicting attacks against the United States or its people, property, or interests;

(d) Maintaining and fostering effective relationships with foreign nations;

(e) Protecting against threats to the homeland and bringing to justice perpetrators of crimes or attacks against the United States or its people, property, or interests;

(f) Providing rapid and effective response to and recovery from the domestic consequences of an attack or other incident;

(g) Protecting and stabilizing the Nation's economy and ensuring public confidence in its financial systems; and

(h) Providing for critical Federal Government services that address the national health, safety, and welfare needs of the United States.

(6) The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government. In order to advise and assist the President in that function, the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism (APHS/CT) is hereby designated as the National Continuity Coordinator. The National Continuity Coordinator, in coordination with the Assistant to the President for National

Security Affairs (APNSA), without exercising directive authority, shall coordinate the development and implementation of continuity policy for executive departments and agencies. The Continuity Policy Coordination Committee (CPCC), chaired by a Senior Director from the Homeland Security Council staff, designated by the National Continuity Coordinator, shall be the main day-to-day forum for such policy coordination.

(7) For continuity purposes, each executive department and agency is assigned to a category in accordance with the nature and characteristics of its national security roles and

responsibilities in support of the Federal Government's ability to sustain the NEFs. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall serve as the President's lead agent for coordinating overall

continuity operations and activities of executive departments and agencies, and in such role shall perform the responsibilities set forth for the Secretary in sections 10 and 16 of this directive.

(8) The National Continuity Coordinator, in consultation with the heads of appropriate executive departments and agencies, will lead the development of a National Continuity Implementation Plan (Plan), which shall include prioritized goals and objectives, a concept of operations, performance metrics by which to measure continuity readiness, procedures for continuity and incident management activities, and clear direction to executive department and agency continuity coordinators, as well as guidance to promote interoperability of Federal Government continuity programs and procedures with State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector owners and operators of critical infrastructure, as appropriate. The Plan shall be submitted to the President for approval not later than 90 days after the date of this directive.

(9) Recognizing that each branch of the Federal Government is responsible for its own continuity programs, an official designated by the Chief of Staff to the President shall ensure that the executive branch's COOP and COG policies in support of ECG efforts are appropriately coordinated with those of

the legislative and judicial branches in order to ensure interoperability and allocate national assets efficiently to maintain a functioning Federal Government.

(10) Federal Government COOP, COG, and ECG plans and operations shall be appropriately integrated with the emergency plans and capabilities of State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector owners and operators of critical infrastructure, as appropriate, in order to promote interoperability and to prevent redundancies and conflicting lines of authority. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall coordinate the integration of Federal continuity plans and operations with State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector owners and operators of critical infrastructure, as appropriate, in order to provide for the delivery of essential services during an emergency.

(11) Continuity requirements for the Executive Office of the President (EOP) and executive departments and agencies shall include the following:

(a) The continuation of the performance of PMEFs during any emergency must be for a period up to 30 days or until normal operations can be resumed, and the capability to be fully operational at alternate sites as soon as possible after the occurrence of an emergency, but not later than 12 hours after COOP activation;

(b) Succession orders and pre-planned devolution of authorities that ensure the emergency delegation of authority must be planned and documented in advance in accordance with applicable law;

(d) Provision must be made for the acquisition of the resources necessary for continuity operations on an emergency basis;

(e) Provision must be made for the availability and redundancy of critical communications capabilities at alternate sites in order to support connectivity between

and among key government leadership, internal elements, other executive departments and agencies, critical partners, and the public;

(f) Provision must be made for reconstitution capabilities that allow for recovery from a catastrophic emergency and resumption of normal operations; and

(g) Provision must be made for the identification, training, and preparedness of personnel capable of relocating to alternate facilities to support the continuation of the performance of PMEFs.

(12) In order to provide a coordinated response to escalating threat levels or actual emergencies, the Continuity of Government Readiness Conditions (COGCON) system establishes executive branch continuity program readiness levels, focusing

on possible threats to the National Capital Region. The President will determine and issue the COGCON Level. Executive departments and agencies shall comply with the requirements and

assigned responsibilities under the COGCON program. During COOP activation, executive departments and agencies shall report their readiness status to the Secretary of Homeland Security or the Secretary's designee.

(13) The Director of the Office of Management and Budget shall:

(a) Conduct an annual assessment of executive department and agency continuity funding requests and performance data that are submitted by executive departments and agencies as part of the annual budget request process, in order to monitor progress in the implementation of the Plan and the execution of continuity budgets;

(b) In coordination with the National Continuity Coordinator, issue annual continuity planning guidance for the development of continuity budget requests; and

(c) Ensure that heads of executive departments and agencies prioritize budget resources for continuity capabilities, consistent with this directive.

(14) The Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy shall:

(a) Define and issue minimum requirements for continuity communications for executive departments and agencies, in consultation with the APHS/CT, the APNSA, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and the Chief of Staff to the President;

(b) Establish requirements for, and monitor the development, implementation, and maintenance of, a comprehensive communications architecture to integrate continuity components, in consultation with the APHS/CT, the APNSA, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and the Chief of Staff to the President; and

(c) Review quarterly and annual assessments of continuity communications capabilities, as prepared pursuant to section 16(d) of this directive or otherwise, and report the results and recommended remedial actions to the National Continuity Coordinator.

(15) An official designated by the Chief of Staff to the President shall:

(a) Advise the President, the Chief of Staff to the President, the APHS/CT, and the APNSA on COGCON operational execution options; and

(b) Consult with the Secretary of Homeland Security in order to ensure synchronization and integration of continuity activities among the four categories of executive departments and agencies.

(16) The Secretary of Homeland Security shall:

(a) Coordinate the implementation, execution, and assessment of continuity operations and activities;

(b) Develop and promulgate Federal Continuity Directives in order to establish continuity planning requirements for executive departments and agencies;

(c) Conduct biennial assessments of individual department and agency continuity capabilities as prescribed by the Plan and report the results to the President through the APHS/CT;

(d) Conduct quarterly and annual assessments of continuity communications capabilities in consultation with an official designated by the Chief of Staff to the President;

(e) Develop, lead, and conduct a Federal continuity training and exercise program, which shall be incorporated into the National Exercise Program developed pursuant to Homeland Security Presidential Directive-8 of December 17, 2003 ("National Preparedness"), in consultation with an

official designated by the Chief of Staff to the President;

(f) Develop and promulgate continuity planning guidance to State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector critical infrastructure owners and operators;

(g) Make available continuity planning and exercise funding, in the form of grants as provided by law, to State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector critical infrastructure owners and operators; and

(h) As Executive Agent of the National Communications System, develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive continuity communications architecture.

(17) The Director of National Intelligence, in coordination with the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security, shall produce a biennial assessment of the foreign and domestic threats to the Nation's continuity of government.

(18) The Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of Homeland Security, shall provide secure, integrated, Continuity of Government communications to the President, the Vice President, and, at a minimum, Category I executive departments and agencies.

(19) Heads of executive departments and agencies shall execute their respective department or agency COOP plans in response to a localized emergency and shall:

(a) Appoint a senior accountable official, at the Assistant Secretary level, as the Continuity Coordinator for the department or agency;

(b) Identify and submit to the National Continuity Coordinator the list of PMEFs for the department or agency and develop continuity plans in support of the NEFs and the continuation of essential functions under all conditions;

(d) Plan, conduct, and support annual tests and training, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, in order to evaluate program readiness and ensure adequacy and viability of continuity plans and communications systems; and

Quite the night of hockey! Michigan State bottles up Maine and heads to the final with a 4-2 workman like victory. First time since 86 they make a final appearance.

The second game was a lil more exciting. Exciting because once again BC ends Suzie's year. The hacking and slashing got them this time. They got penalties when they least could afford them. Eastern bias I guess. Or was it these excuses:

"The amount of times they showed BC fans during breaks was also very sickening. They showed BC fans 10x more than they showed a Sioux fan. Grossing me out"

"Evidently the black and white have a line on the game"

"You just don't send a team down 2 men on the ice with 4 minutes left in final four game"

The season was put to an end Sunday with a OT goal (weak at best) by a very determined Sue team. Play was carried most of the game by them. Talk about flat. Did they have nothing left in the tank for these guys? Humm.....NO. They got beat by a better team. Not all around better, just playing their best hockey when it counts.

The off season looks to be a little iffy. Johnson and Goli are more then likely gone. Vannelli and Briggs(ave) graduate. There is talk of Man beast and Barriball leaving. Not to mention Wheeler. I wish the NC$$ would step in and stop this BS by the NHL. They should not be eligible for the DRAFT until the end of their junior year at any given school. Not going to happen!

So let's look forward to the semi's. Maine got lucky again. How does this team even get to the show? Eastern bias. Michigan St. proved they can play. ND was taken out by them. Look for a close game but State making the trip to the championship.

Next is BC and Suzie. Both teams are on fire. Lammy will need to stand on his head and have the BEST GAME OF HIS LIFE to beat BC. They are a awesome team to watch. This is a rematch from last year. That game was not even close. BC carried the play and coasted to the F4.

Today the Goof's face the flyboy's. They have two very dynamic players. 11 Minnesota boys and 4 goalies. Yes, 4 goalies. As posted earlier the mainly played a weak schedule. They gave a few WCHA teams a scare. Speed will be the key. Dump and grind! RJ is in the lineup, at forward. Let's see if he can get his first.

The field is set. The POI head West to face The Air Force team. The selection commitee switched the 15 and 16 seeds around. So overall No. 1, Minnesota get's the 15 seed. The only reason I can see for this is fan draw. The regional is devoid of CC and UD/DU. So Air Force is the draw.
By far the hardest region. Michigan should give Suzie ALL they can handle. Air Force has played CC, UD/DU, ND and Alaska twice. They lost each game, but not by much.

This was a classic battle between two perennial powers. The Goof's matched Suzie blow for blow. Both teams missed a few scoring opportunities. Both teams took stupid penalties. Both teams were called for the fair share of questionable penalties. I'm sure they were going NUTS over at itsalltherefsfault.com! This is the team we watched during the first half. Got it done with D! Speaking of D, they finally put together a FULL game with no major give aways. Frazzee again looked solid. Does anybody else get nervous with his handling the puck? Every time he venture out to get the biscuit, I cringe.

Kyle deserves the game MVP. He dug and ground the DOT line all night. What can be said about Wheeler? Big time players come up big! Remind you of anybody? Somebody from Suzie's side of the river? Didn't that goal resemble Broten's goal just a tad?

Bracketology. The current selection prognostication is here. It is a shame that they are in the same region. These two teams need to meet in the Frozen Four.

Windshield wins. Look out for Suzie! They dominated St.Clown, no question! Their first 5 minutes reminded me of the early season Goof's. Came out and took charge!

Now to the POI.
D again looked tentative in their own end. WTF is wrong with Goli?
I watched him make a few bone headed plays. Most of them in his own zone. Too many give aways!

The positive. They held their ground, matched UW hit for hit and stayed in the system. Dug hard and played 60 minute.

Forwards played stronger each period. Not a lot of chances in the 3rd for TNSoH. Briggs went unchallenged.

I hope they come to send a message to Suzie tomorrow! They had better eat their Wheaties because this team is HOT!

One thing is for sure. WE will have a NEW National Champion.

I only caught the first period of the game but sconi pretty much shut them down that period so most of the game must have been the same way!

The Goof's have to prove they can play with intensity for 60 minutes. The race for the Frozen 4 is up in the air. With all the playoff's this weekend there are only a few teams who are a lock for the tourney. 9 are in for sure. That leaves 7 spots for a LOT of teams.

Minnesota, Notre Dame, St. Cloud, New Hampshire, Clarkson, Boston College, Boston University, Michigan and Alabama-Huntsville are in.

It is hard to believe but Suzie is a bubble team. They need to win in St.Paul to make it. NO....Not the whole thing just 1 win. Go here and read the whole shabang!

The Final 5 is just 1 day away. The play in game pits Tech against the BADgers. This year Tech swept the only 2 they played. Typical BADger hockey, 2-1, 4-2 losses. Most fans will be cheering for Tech Thursday night. I am not one of those fans. Tech will be playing with a little more tenacity then ANYBODY in this shootout. Both teams need to win the Final 5 to make the show!

Prediction: BADgers 5-2

That brings us to Stearns Co. CC and the flickertails. Humm.......Suzie just took 3 from them. Suzie has been RED HOT in the second half. Stuutteerrriinnggg Bobby has shown he is human. Suzie ALWAYS plays big at the X. St.Patty's is Saturday! Oh wait they play Friday afternoon...Well then, time for Suzie to stumble.

....That was a close one!
The game wasn't as close as it seemed. 3-1. The POI make another trip to St.Paul. A place that seems to not like them since 2002. They head to Kellogg Blvd. after dispatching a pesky Seadog team. Alaska St. only manages 12 total shots for the game. The Goof's peppered their netminder all night yet could not get them past. A lot of wide open nets, missed nets or fanning on the shot. This game could well of been 6-1! Oh well, got to watch 1 more game I guess!

So to the X we go. 1,2,3,6,7 seeds make the show. 1 good thing. At least you won't have to hear me rant about Tech's shitty band being there when the team is not. They squeak by CC to make it for the first time in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. They get the pleasure of the play-in game against the BADgers.

fUMD almost prevails against St.Clown. 3OT's and JBSU's Nodl scores the game winner.

Vannelli and Goli look like they are playing at half speed and being just plain lazy and lackadaisical. Johnson...well he can just head out now. Number 1 my ass. Sloppy, lazy and he just does not give a shit. Kessel the cancer strikes again.

What will game 3 give us? Hopefully a week to sit and THINK about what this means to them. I'm not liking the end of this season. It is coming sooner then later.

Back from my weekend sledding trip to SilverBay on the North Shore. Man was there a TON of snow. Step off the trail and you sank into 4Ft. of powder!!! Trails were devoid of people and the groomers were out in force.

There's just something about tearing up a trail at 70+ MPH!! You burn a lot of gas and scare the shit out of your self but man what a RUSH!

OK, so I watched the game from Saturday night. The puck just refused to bounce the Goof's way all night. The D corp had their heads up their arses all night. tDon took exception to their effort and they had a little skating party Sunday morning. Must have wanted to refresh their memories a bit.

For your right...to host in the playoffs. The .500 Techsters hit Mecca this weekend. They are in a dog fight to host a first round playoff bid. WHAT? Tech at home in the first round? Nah. Ain't gonna happen. They need to sweep the U of M and they need DU.......oopppsss UD (more on that one in a bit) to sweep CC. The way the Goofs have been playing the first may be possible, but with a home and home in the Rockies, not likely.

Tech is 1 point behind CC for that 5th home playoff spot.

In other action Goon's gang heads to Stearns County to take on Never Been There State. Can stttttuuuuuutttttteeeerrrrriiinnnggg Bobby continue to sttttaaaaaannnnnnnddddddd on his head and carry the team? This should be a really good match up. Both have a lot to play for. The flickertails could use a couple of wins to solidify and move up in the Pairwise. We all know that JBSU is chasing the POI for the title.

So after a week off that saw the POI off the ice for five days (at tDon's orders). They return from that little private school with a sweep in hand. Hard to believe it has been that long since the Goof's swept a season series from CC! This should be a momentum builder heading to a home-home series with St.Clown. The BADgers all but ended Bobby's bid for the cup. MulletU leaves madtown with one stinking point.

Other action saw the 2006-2007 D1 champs,(as already crowned by their moody fan base) the university of racist nickname, held on against fUMD for a tie and a sweep. They head to DU for a HUGE series. Huge because they can, with a little help and a sweep of DU, take over third place in the WCHA. Not only would they avoid the play-in game, but they would all but lock up a ticket to the big show. They close out with St.Clown.

As it stands now the would host the BADgers in the playoffs!

Speaking of fUMD, they host Alaska St. in a battle for who gets to visit DinkyTown in the first round. fUMD is 2 points behind them.

The two worst hairdo's in college hockey go "head to head" this weekend. The Goof's take a 4 point WCHA lead to the Rockies and hope to come home with that lead. Earlier in the year the Goof's steamrolled CC at Mecca. CC sits 4th in the conference and will be playing to stay there. The will also have a chip on their shoulders from way back in October.

A POI sweep would really hurt CC and push them closer to that thang we call the bubble. A CC sweep would help their Pairwise rank a LOT!

The U is 4-4 in their last 8. CC is 3-3-2. (excludes the U18 game) CC has faced fUMD, Tech, BADgers and StClown.

The U has faced BADgers, DU, Flickertails and Alaska St. Let's hope the week off gave them a rest from competition and that tDon worked their ASSES off in practice for this important series (actually next two series)

POI get a few injured players back and should be at full bench strength this weekend. The netminders need to play HUGE this weekend and steal one. Friday night will tell the tale of the next few weeks. Can they get back to their solid D play and scoring punch? Let's practice on CC this weekend. Bobby's boys are next and will be ready.

POI gets 3 of 4 this weekend.

I hate rooting for TNSoH but this weekend we need the BADgers to show up for once and play like the defending champion. I doubt it will happen. St.Clown just has the talent over Bucky. 2-2 Friday, 4-1 Saturday. St.Clown takes 3 of 4.

In other "tribal" news, the Red Lake band has pulled another "get off my land whitey". Not only have the tax payers of this state revived a lake that they OVER FISHED TO EXTINCTION. Began commercial fishing AGAIN. Now they decided that snowmobiler's can not use the trails that cut across their land and have closed nearly 10 miles of trails in and around Lake of the Woods and Red Lake. Take that! Meanwhile all you fools continue to pump money into their casinos and eat walleye fingers! When will the people of this state wake up and make a stand? When our hairless Gov and legislature decide to. They tried once, and the war party came a runnin!

Boycott the casino's, stop eating walleye in the restaurants and for god sakes avoid Red Lake!

Two UND men's hockey players were cited for being minors in a bar and another player could be charged with obstructing a police officer, WDAZ-TV reported Wednesday.

Sophomore forwards Jonathan Toews and T.J. Oshie received citations for being at Judy's Tavern in Grand Forks on Sunday night. Junior defenseman Robbie Bina, who is 24 years old, may face charges of obstructing a police officer.

UND coach Dave Hakstol did not comment on the incident and said it would be handled internally. Police are examining whether Judy's will face any charges.

Did anybody get the number of that bus? POI get smacked down Saturday night by the flickertails. Here they go again. Who? Glad you asked. Both of them. Goof's MAY be starting the el'foldo. Suze surging. Nah. First sweep all year. No panic. It may be at the hands of NorthDakanada but it may, may be a catalyst. For who?

Goon's gang will get a boost from this one. The fact remains they are still a .500 team and on the bubble. Although I missed most of the game you could tell how it was going to turn out. How long will it take Frazee to get over THAT goal? HUMFFFF???

Meanwhile the No.1 curse is gone. Now to pull the heads out and get back to work. D has been less then stellar. Saw a lot of standing around and watching. AGAIN. On to Alaska St. No TV from the tundra. A week off and then to CC.

St.Clown splits with DU. They are both in striking distance. The end is a LOOOONNGGG way away. How good are they? We'll have to wait and see.

It was ALL the Ref's fault. NOT! They stood around in front watching the SUE dig! HIT SOMEBODY! They came out right and lost the drive. SUZE earned this victory. A victory in our house. Now we know how Holy Cross's cheer section feels this year. Losing at home SUCKS! Can they rebound? Can they hold their ground Saturday? Can SOMEBODY score?

The power play went limp since "net crasher" got booted from the team.

The Goof's have an opportunity to deliver SUZE and the Holy Cross cheering section another punch to the gut this weekend. They have managed to crawl back into the Pairwise hunt with their recent win
streak (read: cupcake round of their schedule)

My keys to a Goof sweep. Fast start. A goal in the first 3-4 minutes. Shadow the Super Soph's. Put checkers out there against them and follow them where ever they roam. Number 3-4 lines need to come up big this weekend.

Suze will be fired up no doubt a bought it. DU was fired up also but DU is a better coached team with more talent throughout the lineup.

I just realized that MY biggest perceived rival for Goof hockey is SUZE. You can thank J.P. at the X for me hating them even more. I used to appreciate the fact the you were a NorthStar great. The POS actually had the gall to turn around and tell me to quit talking about his kid(in the nets) like that! My response, "mind your own business, I PAID for my tickets!" The 2 SUZE fans next to me(50-60ish) looked at me and said, "he's(JP) an asshole, ignore him" I just about pissed myself!

Now, the ONLY other series that matters in the WCHA. St.Clown takes on DU. This is going to be a HELLOFA series. The Stearns County homo's have been tearing through teams. Having witnessed them live at Mecca earlier this year they can only have improved. DU is a smart and tenacious team. If St.Clown thinks they can push them around they are in for a surprise. Two ties are in order here.

What a feisty series that was. Couple of things, why wasn't DU's goalie called for the obvious dive? The Goof player clearly "whiffed" as tDon called it. Why did the Goof player getting punched (not throwing punches) get a fighting penalty? Anyhoo, a split is OK! Friday night did not go well for the POI. I counted three that clanked off the post. Puck Luck!

Suze makes an appearance at Mecca this weekend. Having a 6-1-1 record in their last 8 they seem to be on a roll. But wait! In games that mean ANYTHING they are 2-1-1. The other four wins were against junk teams. Lost to CC and tied Alaska State.

They are a one line wonder of a team. No depth. Terrible D and suspect netminders. But of course they will be jacked up for the series and will play hard as they always do against us.

Over at Itsalltherefsfault.com they are reliving past goals and games from their distant past. I think this is to hide their obvious fear and realization that they will be heading north with their tails between their "flickertail" legs after the Goofs put a shellacking on Nazi-boys gang. The tools are getting their HC jerseys all washed up at the local "Suds and Puds" and will be out in force this weekend.

This is a HUGE weekend in the WCHA. The braves head to Mecca and St.Clown heads to the arena of fading light at DU. Time to bitch slap Suze by sweeping them out of here and hoping that the series out west ends with 2 ties and a shit load of fighting penalties.

Thank GOD that's over! The coldest frickin weekend of the year we move. Well, at least we missed the snow.

It was rather uneventful. The only snafu was my brother backing over my NEW neighbors mailbox post and snapping it off at the base. His wife was pissed but when I introduced myself to him and explain what happened all he said was, "yeah it looked a little lower".

We went out today and spent some money. King size bed, headboard and foot board, china cabinet, wine rack/server and chair for LB's playroom. Half way to 6K budget! Living room left to furnish and hopefully some left over for couch in the "manhole".

The weekend was without any hockey. No practice for LB, no Goof's for Daddy. BADgers hand the POI their first loss since their first game at the X. Goof's salvage a split and take the series 3-1 this year. Looking ahead. DU heads to Mecca for "Hockey Day In Minnesota" My alma mater is in BAHHHDET for a game on the bay. The Goof's host DU, then the Wild are in action. Not to mention a bunch of specials on in between.

Wood will burn, Windsor will flow and the new home will be enjoyed. I'll be here all week.

NEXT!

Not what you call a typical win, but a win none the less! Not only a win, but a PREDICTED sweep of "whiners" Land Cows. Not typical because both teams looked tired and uninspired. I will say that the Jr. College carried most of the play. The were beating people to the puck and generally out working the POI. But in the end, talent (read:puck luck)was the cure. Enough about them.

Now for a real challenge. The BADgers in MadTown. I watched both games against DU. I was really impressed by DU but that is two weekends away. Back to TNSoH. They continue to under achieve in my opinion. Friday they were lazy and missed a few chances. Saturday they looked like last years team and Elliot(t) looked stellar. This will be the weekend the streak stops. I know,I know but hey the 94E boyz will be jacked up for this one. Rest is in order this week I guess for tDons troops. Light practice week to get their legs back.

The packaging of the house is about 85% done. Thursday is pre-signing and final walk through @ 2908. LB will be heading to Willmar for the weekend. He's out of our hair during the move. Friday is closing at 10 and 12 respectively. Get the truck and start hauling shit over. Boat, sleds and car Friday night. Along with emptying the storage locker and dropping it off. We met the NEW owners of our house last night. Very nice young couple that both work at Mystic. Their lil guy is cute as a bug! I hope they enjoy my house. Boy, hard to believe that after 40 years our family will not reside in that house. Not sure how I'm going to feel come Sunday when I walk out of there for the last time?

Talent overcomes all. With 8 forwards the Goof's CRUSH the Landcows. 28 pct. of the POI's offense is somewhere over the ocean on it's way home and they still manage to whoop ass. GRIT!

Is this squad for real? What effort by the Goof's. Or lack there of by Jutting's Rejects. They came out in the first 5 and started hitting and setting the tempo. Tempo means zip if the skill is not there.

What would Morin be doing if he donned the M? He'll never know! What a waste of talent.

The Mighty Mankato Land Cows come into the weekend having just manhandled the cake eaters from out east. They DOMINATED Yale (cough) and got pwned by Princeton. Princeton? C'mon. Meanwhile the POI took the Cupcake Cup over the weekend. Still MIA are the 5 Goof's who are representing their country in the World Jr tourney. The 5 are not expected back until Sunday's game, yes Sunday's game at Mecca. Savvy scheduling tDon!

Mankato comes in with a 6-12-3 overall record, good enough for 9th in the WCHA. They are down there keeping the likes of the Flickertails and BADgers company. This will be their highlight weekend. The game Friday night should be a wild one in CowLand. After coming ohhhhh so close to beating the Goof's in December look for a lil fire from "Whiners" boys. Just watch this guys expressions on the bench ANYTIME a penalty is called. It's funny!

The Landcows could not have had a better time to play us. 5 gone @ the Jrs. and our resident head case dismissed last week. Still talent will play a role here. Some will say that Mankato is a team that just has not had the breaks. Bullshit! The need to beat the likes of Lethbridge, Princeton and BURRmidji to be considered a threat. Yes, they may sneak one by this weekend but 1 win does not a season make. If the season were to end today they would travel to DU and get mopped up!

Prediction: 5-4 Goof's! 6-2 Goof's! SWEEP!

Cupcake Holiday Classic

Every year, at this time of the year, the POI host a few Eastern Powers. They have the pleasure of hosting Alabama-Huntsville?, Umass, and Ferris State. Not really Eastern but hey get the shots in when I can! Traditionally the U has a few (5 this year) boys at the WJT. Most of the other powers in college hockey host their own tourneys so a few pansies get lured in. This year is no exception.

UAH comes to Mecca with a 5-12-1 record 58 GF, 81 GA. This should be a breeze even with the WJT MIA's. The POI have skated 3 times in 2 weeks and may be a bit rusty. Look for a slow start and then a blitz.

In the first tilt today Umass and Ferris St. hit the sheet. Umass has a 8-5-2 record. Ferris has a dismal 4-11-2 record.

Look for UMA to shut down FSU. Mass has a pretty good goals against of 2.4.

No TV tonight due to the InSight bowl! Wahoo. It's even tape delayed on CCO. WTF!

There is a net cast available via ESPN South. Cue the theme from Deliverance! Bubba and Buford with the play by play at 7:07 PM CST. I think I'll pass. Instead I'll opt for TECH vs. Michigan and HAWHVARD vs. Mich.St on FOX Detroit. Better yet maybe I'll start packing for the move.....HUMMMM.... Couch vs. packing? Couch any day.

Like most fans I go to various forums and read post about the other team games and so on. While visiting Itsalltherefsfault.com I saw a curious thread at the top. It's titled "Enough about Holy Cross" as I started my little journey into the minds of the SUE one thing struck me as odd. A few posters claimed the the SUZIE minions actually helped HC win the game. HUH? No the Goof's just laid an egg. Much like Suzie is doing this year.

Do the POI fans revel in a loss. Yes. Do they obsess? Hell NO! There is a little virtue known around these parts called Class. Do we run out and get a Alaska, BADgers or Tech jersey's and wear them to Mecca when Suzie comes to town? Abomination! Why disrespect your own team by wearing another teams colors? Class.

Oh yeah, I know it was the "biggest" upset in college hockey. Let's move forward people. GPLer's would jump on you in their forum for even posting something like that. Jup would lock it the second it hit the board. Class.

The emotion of playing the Sue will be high when they hit Mecca. Where will the teams be in the standings in a month? What will be the out come? Whatever the outcome one thing remains the same, some have it some don't. Class.

The REAL State of Hockey

INCH has an interesting breakdown by state of D1 college talent and where they hail from. You can see the state by state breakdown here and the WCHA breakdown here.

The paint thinner nation which claims to be the "new state of hockey" has supplied the NCAA with a whopping 27 players. SUZIE'S flatland has supplied 8. Shit, Texas has supplied more the NoDak at 10. Even Illinois has pumped 59 in.

Minny is at 214 (That's 21% of all playing D1) followed by Michigan with 150. One surprise to me is New York with 103!
That's 4 times as many as the red menace and TEN times more then the "butchers" of the national anthem.

You may adopt these players and call them your own, but in fact they are not. Only ONE team in the nation can do that. Little something called pride.

If you think about the decision by the U's braintrust it makes sense. Do not play UND sports! You know why? Because most of their other teams could probably beat the Goof's in other sports. Sad but true.

In a gutless and toothless decision they are not allowing games against the SUE because of the name. Now why would they take this stand and not include hockey? Hummm..... they are going to pressure the non revenue generating teams at UND and start taking away their competition. Will other follow? Don't know.
The only D-1 sport at UND is hockey. They are the most consistent visitors to the post season. Could you imagine the WCHA or Mecca without UND playing? I can't. I can however image an arena without their obnoxious fan base and disrespect to OUR national anthem.

They caught the gutless C*NT who shot 24 year old Pedro Marcelino Simon. Simon had recently left the Mexican army and moved to Minny to get work and support his mother back in Mexico.

Police say that Jorge A. Quijada, felt "disrespected" because Pedro laughed at the gang signs the "C*NT" was flashing as they drove up 94.

Pedro made 1 mistake, paying attention to this boil on the ass of humanity. What prompted the shooting? I can only speculate that they rolled up on him saw he was the same nationality, did their gay little flashy thing and when he laughed at them BANG, BANG yer dead!

Makes you think the next time you get cut off on the highway doesn't it? Keep your finger down and smile! No wait don't smile or laugh!

Some prankster at my church!

Twas a week before Christmas and all through the WCHA rinks not a team could stay with us, not even the 94East dinks!

The SUE were all snuggled safe in 8th place, while DU took it home and grabbed 2nd place.

The Seadogs were swimmin and making some waves, JBSU and CC were were back in the maze.

Let's not forget about the Mavs and whiners from the twin ports, they just keep playing, thinking of April and hitting the resorts.

The Techies keep surging having just swept the the SUE, They are probably still thinking, "what is the NCAA going to do?"

The vizsla was all settled with her head on my quilt, I posted this ramble without guilt.

We may not win it and I do not care, I don't need this, or the fat chick with butch hair.

I leave you to ponder this one lil thing, will your squad be ready to play come spring?

The natives are restless. Reading the post mortem musings over at itsalltherefsfault.com the general sense is "we hope it gets better in the second half". Looking at the schedule it's not going to. They have away series in CC,UM,DU and JBSU.

Tech takes the Friday night tilt 3-1. What a crazy season. The thought that the Flickertails might be getting swept twice at Nazi Hall in consecutive weeks is hilarious!

54GA and 52GF! Does the offense suck or the D? One thing is BOTH the goalies SUCK. To bad we can't return to the RALPH and smack them down. But the braintrust that is the WCHA decided not to have the Goof's visit the wasteland of ND. They are hanging on by a thread in the KRACH at 15th and are well down the charts in PWR at 25th. Will they even make it to St.Paul?

In the Bottom Feeder Cup, daMavs took it to fUMD 3-1. Mr. Niskanen became the 5th leading scorer for the Jr.College by tipping in a shot on his sieve. Jr.College is just 3 points behind the Flickertail's for sixth. fUMD is back where they are used to being. On the bottom looking up. Welcome home!

Did they just kill Morgan? Can't this state get ANYTHING right? The NEXT BUSH halted further death sentences after a "botched" execution. This follows a California hold on executions because Jeremy(US District Judge) said that the 3 cocktail injection was so "painful" that it "OFFENDS" the 8th Amendment. The "judge" has halted the execution of convicted rapist and murderer Michael Morales because he deems the execution as cruel and unusual. HUH?

You raped and killed someone! That's pretty cruel and unusual in MY book.

The report says that 1 execution took 34 minutes! WOW! I wonder how long the victims suffered before their murder? They spend 15 years appeal after appeal, with 3 hots and a cot at OUR expense before the "big day" and then say they suffered. So. Did your victim have 15 years?

The Russian justice system deals with this in a MUCH different way. Convicted of murder?

A fence-building company in Southern California agrees to pay nearly $5 million in fines for hiring illegal immigrants. Two executives from the company may also serve jail time. The Golden State Fence Company's work includes some of the border fence between San Diego and Mexico.

After an immigration check in 1999 found undocumented workers on its payroll, Golden State promised to clean house. But when followup checks were made in 2004 and 2005, some of those same illegal workers were still on the job. In fact, U-S Attorney Carol Lam says as many as a third of the company's 750 workers may have been in the country illegally.

Golden State Fence built millions of dollars' worth of fencing around homes, offices, and military bases. Its president and one of its Southern California managers will pay fines totaling $300,000. The government is also recommending jail time for Melvin Kay and Michael McLaughlin, probably about six months.

It is exceptionally rare for those who employ illegal immigrants to face any kind of criminal prosecution, let alone jail time. Earlier this week, for example, immigration raids on six meat-packing plants netted almost 1,300 suspected illegal workers. But no charges were leveled against the company that runs the plants: Swift.

Golden State Fence's attorney, Richard Hirsch, admits his client broke the law. But he says the case proves that construction companies need a guest-worker program.

Report Card Time.

As the Goof's head to the holiday break I will give you my Report Card on their first semester in the 06-07 adventure.

Offense: A-

This has been a pleasant surprise considering the MAJOR off season losses at forward and scoring pop! My initial fear was lack of hard work and creativity. Boy I could not have been farther then the truth. The Frosh crew has shown work ethic and creative play. At times they try to make the perfect play/pass instead of shooting. It seems to be a problem with Lucia teams though. He teaches control and patience.

Defense: B-

When this team decides to show two way hockey they can be hard to defeat. The weak point as I see it is the lack of the wingers coming back into the defensive zone/mode to assist the D in corners. Once the opposing team starts to cycle the puck, the wingers forget to pick up a man and stick to them. The young core still makes poor decisions in the D zone and neutral zone. At times they are to focused on the "money" pass out of the zone. Some make it , some don't. Can be a real problem come tourney time and single elimination.

Goalies: A

Both are playing well but have had a lot of goals to support the effort. This has been the best crew in a while. Being a fan of this team you tend to overlook the netminders and heap a ton a blame on them for a loss/tie. They will continue to improve. I like the competition that is mounting between the two! Only can add to the fire.

Coaching: A+

After the constant drum of scandal and shit from last year it is nice to see the staff clamping down. This is the only team at the U that punishes their player(minus last year) for bad grades and general AHOLE behavior. Maroosh was rolling in his grave last year. My hat is off to the staff for having the chounies to sit the leading scorer and hot goalie for being durds! Pull your heads out boys!

Special Teams: A+ Humfffff.... You look up the stats! Nuf said!

And finally my Christmas wish. Please Santa make this team stay together another year. I know I asked for the Xbox 360 but scratch that. I want the NHL to stay away for one more year. I believe, I believe. I do I do I do!

Since the "perfect" team will be off for a few days I will bore you with house and holiday stuff. Stay tuned.

As a matter of fact, F MTU! SWEEP! Just got home. Arizona is/was beautiful. Except for the smog cloud that hangs over the city.

I'm sick of reading about teams (read Landcows, St.Clown and now MTU) and their "blue collar" labeling of them selves. I take it by doing this, they are some how saying they work harder for what they get? They work harder because they have less talent. They work harder because they are playing the DUKE of basketball, the MICHIGAN of football when Minny comes to town. It's easy to get up for 1 series. Try it week in and week out. Most of you clowns don't get a chance to watch your team play EVERY week as us Goofer fans do. Look at last weekend when the Jr. College made the Goofs play to their level. Old time "cheap and dirty" WCHA (Western Clutch and Hold Asssociation) hockey.

Took 3 of 4 and beat them in their house! The WCHA, while still strong, is mediocre at best compared to years past. That's why there is parity in the league this year.

Here is an article about our following of this team. The blurb while nice does not make the statement. The fact that the Fishwrapper West put it on the front page of the sports section is more amazing. For a team with so much consistent success there still remains little written about them and coverage in the media. Except when they find out a GASP..........under age college kid has been drinking in a bar GASP! AT least 4-6 of our players have not been accused of GANG RAPE or running down some guy and his GF with his car.

Maybe it is arrogance. I don't know. If supporting a winner in one of the most demanding sports in one of the best leagues in the nation makes me arrogant, then so be it. Just don't call me blue collar. I work hard because it's the right thing to do!

POI will be well represented in the World's this year. 5 pucksters have been chosen.
Forwards Ryan Stoa, Mike Carman and Kyle Okposo, defenseman Erik Johnson and goaltender Jeff Frazee.

More then likely these five will miss the series with pesky Landcows on the 6th and 7th of January when the return to WCHA action.

I missed the Goof game last night. Instead of vegging on the couch, I went to the Cabooze and saw Joe Banomassa. He is a GOD! I have seen Eddie, SRV, Thorogood and Vai. He pwns them all!!!!!

What A bunch of HACKS! True Jutting Hockey.

Can'tbeat'em....(read skate with them) hack, hold and slash them. The 1st period showed the lack of D for the U.
The 2nd period showed lack of CLASS by the JR. college. They showed "Whiner" bitching after "the mauling", pointing to the locker room. I'm sure he was pissing and moaning, "my goalie got cut" too bad your goons pushed him into the goalie.
Reminds me of my hockey days, the talentless hacks always played dirty. It was the only way to keep pace. Amazing what a punch in the face in the warming house did though. TUTU?

Just goes to show you, the perpetual bottom feeders want to be GOPHERS. Too bad you can't PLAY like Gophers! No CLASS. Effort is there but the talent is not, hence the goonery!

As I have gone through this home thingy, I keep hearing the buzzword "motivated". I just found out that motivated means in debt and unrealistic. Now most of you know that the market has gone south. Houses that were over 300K in the spring are now down in the 250 range.

So I did a bit of trolling today. Put in an offer on a house that both Bean and I were luke warm on. The property started at 375 a year ago. NO I'm not loaded. Houses are just way over priced. It is down to 299. That is still 22,000 over the tax base. I offered accordingly. They countered. NOT EVEN HALF the way. No way.

Well so much for a challenge. Michigan was pasted tonight. They were in the game for about 10 total minutes tonight. 8-2 final with 3 shorties and 52, yes 52 SHOTS on goal.
This follows a hard fought battle with Michigan St. The Goof's prevailed 5-4 on Friday night. They looked a little out of it. State was not noted for a lot of scoring.
It's great sweeping TNSoH but one savors a Michigan ASS WHOOPIN!

Next up for the Goof's, Minnesota's Jr. College. Da Mavs. The whiner Jutting brings his bottom feeders to Mecca and they head to....Ah Montiv...ahhhhh....Mason City....Nah Medford that's it.

In other news, The Flickertails split with a weak CC team and St.Clown sweeps fUMD. The WCHA take 3 of 4 from the CCHA.

ARRGGGGGGG!!! I hate when a word gets plastered to a team. Last year was lack of heart. This year the "buzzword" is GRIT. No, how about recruiting players who KNOW how the game is supposed to be played.

Before I spew about the SWEEP of BECKY I want to talk about the D for the goof's. Why can't they take the man at the blueline? I watch time and time as a becky player just skated into the zone and was not challenged until the top or middle of the circle. Mr. Johnson had better pull his head out of his ass in a hurry.

For being the overall number 1 pick he still has yet to impress me.
Now I shall touch on tDon's boy. I was very skeptical when I heard Tony was joining the squad. As you all remember the last "son of a coach" was a TOTAL WASTE OF A TENDER! Just think of the kids that could have played instead of the hack from SSP! This Lucia kid works hard, hits anyone close and has had some bad luck in terms of scoring chances. It seems as though he makes a play and then gets the return pass in the skates or gets handcuffed. I am definitely a fan of this kid. Nice game winner "son of a coach"!

OK it was a good thing. The Goof's showed patience and persistence in tonights game. Not flashy, but solid boring BADgers hockey. Yes, we beat them at their own game. The "mighty" defending champions roll into town for a rare Saturday/Sunday tilt at MECCA. TNSoH boasts a stellar 4-6-2 record. After two consecutive home sweeps the RED Menace look to rebound at a place that has not treated them well.

They have a 5-26 record, including last years sweep at MECCA. Look for 5-28. Yeah you read it. Hey, if the poll on whiner central has the Goof's sweeping, I'm going with them. The BADgers have a bit of trouble scoring goals. D has been OK, but you still need to net a few for tElliot to have a chance.

Skille may play, not that he is a huge offensive threat. This team lacks fire power.

As for the POI, RJ is out for a few weeks after an appendectomy! OWWWWY! Mr.Pohl has moved to D to cover. Now to this teams weak point. Goaltending. Both have looked OK. Frazee has looked better. KB seemed out of it last weekend against JBSU.

Answer this question for me. Why can't Minny pick up a goalie that stands on his head and makes HUGE saves when needed? It always seems that Goldie's netminders are second class.

Why Follow Gopher Hockey?

Why follow Gopher hockey? I think that question can be decomposed into three questions: Why hockey? Why college hockey? Why Gopher hockey?

You ask me why I love hockey. The Sporting News columnist Dave Kindred once said about hockey, "It's like basketball, only with a thousand turnovers." And five baskets per game, presumably. But hockey is much more than Kindred's description, which makes hockey sound like a ten-year-old girls' basketball game; it is odd-man rushes and penalty shots and power plays, rink-wide passes and wraparound tries, and tens of thousands of fans standing in unison as if pulled upward by the invisible hand of adrenaline. The NHL bills itself as "The Fastest Game in Town," but it's more than that-- it's a game that's both the fastest, and the slowest, in the world. It's a game where it takes the blink of an eye for three passes to make it the length of the ice, followed by an eternity as the goaltender slides from one post to the other and the wing tries to one-time the pass into the top shelf of a half-empty net.

English author Nick Hornby wrote a book called "Fever Pitch," an autobiographical tome based on half a lifetime's worth of experience in his travails following the Arsenal soccer club. Watching his club score a late goal in the last game of the season to win the league title, he wrote, "So please, be tolerant of those who describe a sporting moment as their best ever. We do not lack imagination, nor have we had sad or barren lives; it is just that real life is paler, duller, and contains less potential for unexpected delirium."

Hornby may have been writing about soccer, a game that does not tickle the fancies of most American sports fans; but all hockey fans know just exactly what he's talking about. When your team's winger beats the goaltender top-shelf... When a two-on-one rush produces a goal like no other goal you’ve ever seen... When your favorite player slides one five-hole in overtime to win the biggest game of the season.... that's delirium, that's maybe the best feeling legally producible in real life. Day-to-day life produces none of this. Hockey does.

You ask me why I love college hockey. It’s a question that’s been asked for many years by professional leagues, owners, players, and the decision-makers associated with the professional game: why, when given the chances to see the best athletes on earth compete at the highest possible level, do so many otherwise rational people choose to watch their local college team instead? (And why do so many of those otherwise rational people act so rabidly about that college game?) I believe the answer lies in the dynamic between institution and team and fans. We know, as sports fans, that what we are getting when we attend a professional game amounts, most basically, to a voyeuristic experience. We go, we watch, we cheer, we scream-- but at the end of the day, we have no real connection to our team. Even if we were at the game, banging on the glass or on the seat in front of us, exhorting our favorite team’s players on to greater heights, what we are doing still amounts to cheering at people in a bubble. When we leave the arena, we may feel a sense of pride in our team, but our only real belonging to that team is from the $75 we gave their organization for the privilege of sitting outside that bubble. College offers a different experience entirely. When we leave that arena, we feel not only a sense of pride in our team--we feel a sense of pride in ourselves. It may come from our affiliation with the collegiate institution, whether as a student or alumnus or longtime follower; it may come from our participation at the games, chanting the same things that have been chanted in the same situations for maybe a thousand years. What University of Minnesota fan never chanted, "Let’s go Go-phers!" accented in the same places and on the same notes? What University of Michigan fan never chanted, "Let’s Go Blue!"? Professional sports take place in the bubble, and try as you might, you never can quite grasp the feeling, and you never can quite touch the action. In collegiate sports, you’ve not only broken through the bubble; you’ve reached out and grasped the action, felt it build up inside your soul, and the action has reached right back, grasped you and pulled you in.

You ask me why I love Gopher hockey. I ask you if there was any other choice. Maybe if I had grown up in Detroit or Boston or Orono, Maine; then maybe I would not be a Gopher fan today. But I grew up in Minnesota, and despite what North Dakota or Duluth or Mankato fans would have you believe, there really was no other option than to become a Gopher fan. North Dakota may be a successful hockey program. Duluth may have its rabid fans. Mankato may be very important to people who hail from that city. But Gopher hockey is so much more than that, has meant so much more than that to me. It’s watching the first two periods of the game on MSC, then straining to pick up the third period on your alarm-clock radio after your parents have sent you to bed. It’s attending games in the new Mariucci Arena while wishing that you could have attended a game in the old Mariucci Arena, wishing that you had memories of the old arena when it was still Williams Arena Ice Rink. It’s John Mariucci, and John Mayasich, and the photos of teams going back too many years for anyone to have seen them all. It’s Herb Brooks, prowling the bench, leading three teams to titles. It’s Doug Woog, leading the team first as a player and then as a coach, leading them to a period of sustained greatness the likes of which today’s program can maybe only dream about. It’s Randy Skarda, hitting the post in overtime, and just how the heck did that weak backhander beat Stauber? It’s Neal Broten and the Hobey, Robb Stauber and the Hobey, Brian Bonin, and yes, Jordan Leopold with the Hobey. It’s the murals, where Leopold skates next to Crowley and Stauber makes a save on Woog. It’s the fact that nobody’s going to be wearing number 8 in maroon and gold on the ice anytime soon. It’s Broten chipping one over Iwabucci, Potulny sliding one under Yeats, it’s all the trophies in the concourse, so many that nobody knows exactly what they’re all there for anymore. It’s five gold banners, hanging over the east goal, spanning sixty-three years of Gopher champions.

But maybe most importantly, it’s the five-year-olds I see at the rink on Saturday mornings, when no one’s in the building except me and them, and all they know me as is as the kid who’s driving the Zamboni. They play their games, have their practices, and I see them warming up, skating the length of the ice (taking far too long) and faking this way and sliding one in and, hey, just maybe, if they were a little bigger, they would have looked just like Tyler Hirsch beating Wade Dubielewicz. And then maybe they make their first visit to the rink later that night, getting their first close-up look at the arena. Wow, Dad, how many guys are on that wall? Why are they up there? Dad, who’s going to be up there next? Hey, Grandpa, how many of these guys did you see play? How many banners are there up in the rafters, anyway? There sure are a lot. Why do all those kids say the same things after the other guys get a penalty, why do they all point at the goalie and yell? What are they saying? What do you mean you can’t tell me? Hey, Dad, we scored! What did everyone just say after the band stopped playing?

And then maybe Dad leans over to his son, as my father did to me, and maybe he wants to tell him about all the goals he’s seen, all the great players he’s watched, all of the championships he’s watched when he saw his team play this game, and what a game it is. Maybe he wants to teach him the words to the Rouser and the Minnesota March, and tell him just exactly how his dad reacted when Grant Potulny picked up Jordan Leopold’s shot after it deflected off Johnny Pohl, how Grant picked it up and slipped it under Matt Yeats and the whole state of Minnesota went berserk. But he doesn’t have time for all that. He knows that his son will pick that up in time, that soon, for his son, the game and the team will be the son’s and not just the father’s. Instead, he just sums all of it up in one sentence, with one word.

Instead, he just leans over and teaches him how to spell M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A.

I read a statement in the fish wrapper east today about batteries being thrown on the ice and at the POI players. I asked myself, "why batteries?" Well it seems as though JBSU's marketing department decided to give their children something to play with during the game.

A battery operated fan that lit up and said GO JBSU and Huskies. I didn't connect the dot until I watched the game again and saw Wooger with one between periods. First off WHY a fan in MN in the winter? What was it 25 last night here?

A well deserved split in my opinion. St.Clown showed guts this weekend. The Goof's showed they can forget to play defense. I thought for sure this team was solid in their zone. They're not. The D again was pinching and getting burnt AGAIN. Too many give aways AGAIN. Mr. 1st round was average AGAIN.

On the bright side: Frazee played well. Better then Briggs last night. Bariball, GASP Lucia and Stoa were solid. Lucia showed the grinder role he has been assigned. Now if the D will be more heads up...

The game gets turned up a bit in the next two series. TNSoH comes to town fresh off a SWEEP on home ice by DU. Looks as though the magic has left Mad Town. Do they chant sieve when the goalie makes a save? Back to the middle of the pack RED MENACE! After the sweep by the POI, comes Mich. and Mich. St. Yes I'm looking ahead but TNSoH is way OVERRATED. The second half of the season is on the road so...you do the math.

In other action GR4 takes the game 3-2. Drunk Chick's TECH team may be for real. Beating fUMD 4-1. They may not need to be the official band of the WCHA. They may actually HAVE to be there. So much for my letter to the commish about how shitty that band was at the F5 last year. Thought she was taller also. Was Suzie off this weekend? Or did they play under another name?

The Clowns bring circus to MECCA

This game was as disjointed as a sideshow freak. By far the worse defensive/attitude/effort of this young season. Both teams were sloppy, hesitant and generally lacked any attitude. You come to expect a high energy, hard hitting game against St.Clown. Both were lacking.

The Mighty Maroon and Gold blew 2 two goal leads. Briggs played his worse game since last years loss to St.Clown in the F5. It did not help that the D played with their heads up the ol ARSE! Vanelli was sleeping most of the game.

Bariball finally came back to life. Okposo was on and off. Mr.1st round looked in awe of St.Clown at times. I would not have wanted to be at the team meeting with tDon last night!

Stearns Co's finest make their way 94 East for a home and home tilt with POI! JBSU (GR3) comes to Mecca tonight boasting a lackluster 2-3-1 record. They head to National Cement Center on Saturday night. Bobby, Jan's savior, is 1-3-1 with a 2.95 GAA and a .899 save percentage! The Flickertails peppered him last week and St.Clown escaped with a point.

Leading the way for JBSU is Andreas Nodl (3-5--8) and Ryan Lasch (4-3--7)

The Goof's own a 40-20-9 all time series lead. Of course who can forget their last meeting in St.Paul. A wild OT thriller won by St.Clown.

They enter tonights game on a 8 game unbeaten streak. tDon will continue to platoon the netminders with Briggs tonight at Mecca and Frazee at the Cement Center. I like the fact that Frazee get the nod for the "away" game. He still tends to be a bit jittery at the start of the games. Mr.Bostrom may return this weekend for 1 game after sitting the last 4 weeks with a knee injury. He has been full strength at practice this week.

Look for a fast start tonight. I see a blow out. 6-1. From reading therefshateus.com forum posts the JBSU team lack decent D and scoring punch. The latter I witnessed against TNSoH a few week back. (in case you are stupid "The New State of Hockey" as crowned by the talking eyebrow from CSTV)

At the Nat'l Cement Center the crowd may have an effect in the scoring but not the outcome. 5-4 Goof's with an empty netter and the SWEEP!

I have the RARE opportunity to visit MECCA tonight! Myself and LB, will be in the friendly confines of the house that "Maroosh" built. Time to get LB that jersey we have been talking about. Hey, start brainwashing them young I say! I just hope he doesn't break out the "Huskies Suck" chant tonight. At least Beaner (who hails from Stearns County and is Alumni) will be spared the pain of that.

I've picked up on something recently. North Dakanada has some kind of fixation with MN.
I have been following the whole nickname flap. In trying to read as much as I can about both sides of the story.
I ventured over to the Grand Forks Herald web site. One thing that struck me as odd is the coverage that MN in general gets. From the main page, there are no less then 5 reference to MN news and stories. Last time I checked the map Grand Forks was on the west bank of the river. They cover MN like St.Paul covers MURDERAPOLIS!
Now it's obvious that the close proximity to the border has a LOT to do with this but man....

Is MN like the big brother that get's looked up to? Or is it deeper?

While looking over at FlickerTail Central I saw this post. Nearly 34000 views! Yes the Gophers lost to Holy Cross. Man it's like a kid who just discovered his dad's stash of Playboys. How can this still be a big deal? Are they so out of things to do or think about that they need to constantly remember a single game? Are their lives so uninspired that they fixate on a competitors loss? Hummmm......I have only watched Grant's OT goal 3 times and that was for a Nat'l Championship. No we don't forget our players DOPE!

Do they load the clip on their Ipod vanish to the bathroom and pop one off?

Now granted, our friends to the west have NO pro teams. So they need to focus on college sports for their shot of rah rah pride. Maybe that's why they are the most hated fans in the WCHA.
They have so little to cheer for and pour their guts out for them.

Another thing. Is it me or do they blame the officials for every loss/bad game? I read the game day posts and keep up with the scores (as I do with most WCHA teams) and inevitably the ref's always are against them. FERCHRISTSAKES they are human and make mistakes and sometimes are not on top of their game just like hockey players.

For a school that is so worried about losing their name. Say it's not derogatory, even when the schools namesake says they do not like them using it. Is totally out of whack. The argument that "Florida St. gets to keep their name but WE don't", doesn't hold water. That tribe is called by their correct name. Most Siouan deem "Sioux" as derogatory. Lil etymology for ya:

I found some inspiration today.

I started this blog as more of an experiment. I was inspired by PINHEAD Nation. I was inspired by the fact that it was done in humor! Some of the content is questionable, yes, but taken in context it is fun and the reaction by most who visit it is...well all in fun. I will NEVER claim to be an expert at recruiting (anybody can surf and find recruiting news) I will never claim to be a Historian (anybody can use Google) I will use my 21 year hockey career to base my opinions. I will give my biased view about the Maroon and Gold. As will others about their respective teams. I do not live for "links", ya link to me I return the favor and allow the 4 people who come here (mostly friends and family) to read other informative/funny/serious College Hockey Blogs. You decide what to take in, comment on and take to heart. I will not force my opinions on you. But if you come here and read you are subjecting yourself to poss...errrr....probably negative talk about YOUR team. Not malicious, but SMACK! I started this blog shortly before my green goggled friend to the west. Yet, his blog is far more informative and fair then mine. Sure we share barb's, but hey that's why "I" started it.

A trip to GR2ville......

whilst reading the dribble on USCHO and skipping over every other post on GPL (every other post about is about "tFATBOY" drinking, again bring back the IGNORE function on GPL) I decided to look into fUMD's stats. 2-2-2 overall. Goals scored in their last four games (which they are 1-2-1) 2 in each game. Their leading scorer is a D-man. As a matter of fact, in the top 10 point getters for fUMD 4 play the blue line. The team is fairly young and I'm sure they will be pumped for the Rodents return to the DUMP errr.......aaaaa DECC. I had a chance to catch them on FSNA when they were playing "the new state of hockey", I know it was early but they were sloppy in their own zone and try a ton of LONG passes. Mind you TNSoH is not a offensive machine and they managed a tie and a win. Next was DU. A mere shadow of who they were and they managed a split.

As for the Goof's. The last four games have been nothing short of flawless hockey. Can this keep up? Not sure. But compared to last years team, this squad gets it for team play, physicality (is that a word?) and pure drive. I re-watched that Saturday nights tilt with CC. They were relentless in their pursuit of the puck. It didn't matter where or who, somebody was on them. Have they been challenged this year. NO not really. Maine was the first game AHOLE!

They will be challenged this weekend. I look for the fUMD players to do a lot of chasing and end up getting a bunch of dumb penalties. You can forget the "small" rink advantage you claim to have. This just gives them less room to skate you down, paste you to the boards, take the puck and stuff it behind the JBSU rejects back.

Outlook:
Close game Friday. 5-3. Blowout Saturday. 6-1 Goof's break the DUMP's hex and send fUMD towards another, I repeat another, bottom of the pack finish.

Goof's junior defenseman Alex Goligoski (Grand Rapids, Minn.) was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Kyle Okposo (St. Paul, Minn.) was named WCHA Rookie of the Week, following the Gopher’s two-game sweep of Colorado College at MECCA last weekend. Goligoski tallied four-points on the weekend, while Okposo scored three goals in the 8-1 win over the Tigers on Saturday night.

The Goof's lead the all-time series against fUMD with a 122-66-11 (.641) record in a series dating back to 1952. In Duluth, the Goof's are 50-38-4 (.565), including a 5-6-1 under Don Lucia. They went 2-1-1 vs. fUMD last season, going 0-1-1 in Duluth before wrapping up the regular season with two shutouts of the dogs at MECCA. Six of the last seven games have been decided by two goals or less. The Goof's have not won in Duluth since a 5-4 victory on Feb. 21, 2003. The Goof's have not had a road sweep in Duluth since Feb. 4-5, 2000.

The first sweep of the young season! The POI put on a clinic tonight. Not only a 8 goal outburst, but defense that is smothering. "Thunderstorm" gets his first of MANY hattricks. This team is much harder working then last years. Wooger made a comment on a stat posted on FSN. Barriball has twice the points that "the one year wonder" had at this point in the season. "twice as good" was his comment. LOL! Twice the heart is what I say. This team looks nothing like the team that myself and LB saw. Wish we had a rematch. I can wait til April for that!
Looking ahead the POI makes the trek to the city by the sea, Duluth. Better bring your extra attitude Dog fans. This team has never experienced the Dumps...errrrrr Decc's atmosphere. It's not going to matter. The DOGS are in for a goood Ol Goofer ASS whoopin.

Looks like the BADgers are going to get swept at home! 4-1 last I heard. They were SHUTOUT last night. OVERRATED. Hanging onto last years Championship. FING ugly hockey to watch.

tUMD splits with lowly DU. The Flickertails take care of business against GR3(Gopher rejects 3) First being tUMD, second being JBSU and fourth being CHA's Muskrats.

The BIG surprise id Mich Tech. WOW A SWEEP. Does not happen a lot. "Ban the(MTU) band" at the X is in full swing look for the web site soon.

Let me just say the OSU was schooled in EVERY aspect of the game. 7-2 final. After finding their legs the Goof's unleashed a performance that many fans knew was there. This team looked nothing like the lost team at the X against Maine. Again the freshmen ruled the day. Why not, we have mostly frosh's in the lineup. OSU's head coach stated, "With a team of that skill — all the way out from the goaltender — they'll expose you on every mistake you make, and you saw that tonight," 7 different players score for Minny. EJ got his first and finally showed some off the flash he is known for. At 6-2 and 225 he put a Savard like spinaroma on a Buckeye skater that was amazing. It was nice to see Mr.Brigg's back between the pipes. Tonite will be a different game I think. OSU will more then likely come out swinging. Goof's sweep and bring out our favorite girl,BroomHilda!

In other action I watched. tUMD played gritty against "the new state of hockey" GAG! What an ugly game to watch. I was suprised that the Dogs hung with them. I look forward to watching them again tonite. tUMD takes 3 out of the shithouse.

Meanwhile at Mariucci West, Maine bitchslapped the Flickertails. This one shocked me more then the Fighting Irish beating BC. I thought for sure UND would walk all over this team. UND is better. Maine looked poor against the Goof's. Unfortunately in that game the POI boys looked tired. Look for a inspired game by the Gopher rejects and earn the split.

The Goof's take on lowly Wayne State this weekend at Mecca! The Warriors are coming off of a dismal 6-23-6 season in the CHA. Coach Wilkinson leads a veteran team comprised of 11 Canucks and 17 others mostly from Michigan. Of it's players, 16 are Juniors or Seniors.

The Goof's need to get ahead and stay ahead in these two games. Their youth showed in the first period against Maine. They took it to Maine in the 2nd and 3rd periods but could not solve the goalie. I was really impress with the play of Okposo, Barriball and Carmen. The outshined everybody from the Goof's that nite. These two games will show what kind of character this team has. Wayne State is going to come out after them I think. Predictions. Sweep!5-2/6-1 Goof's.

There being NO coverage for both games, I will have to resort to the Flickertail's and BADgers games. CSTV is covering Friday and FSN has Saturdays tilt. This should be a great battle of the most hated in Minny! I'll reserve my comments for after the series. Let's have two ties! Seriously, I look for a Flickertail sweep!

I caught this article called "Gopher Hunting" on the Maine Campus web site. I guess journalism class is not Maine's strong suit. Neither is their hockey program but that is another story.

This is only page one of four because the rag of a site makes you register to read further. Not happening!

"We're very pleased to have been invited. This is exactly what we like to do. We like to challenge ourselves right off the bat and we're doing that again this year with Minnesota, Bemidji and North Dakota in our non-league start."

I take issue with the "cookie cutter" statement. Where the fuck has this guy head been? Not only is the X undoubtedly the NICEST arena in the country, the Goof fans that go there to watch them are most of the people that never get a chance to go to Mecca to catch a game. I think the waiting list for season tickets to Mecca is about 10 years based on how many come up. This crowd can get downright LOUD.

Minnesota's hockey scene tired and old? Let's see how many players from Maine actually play for Maine (Runs to USCHO and checks roster)..................

Humm..... I see there is 1. Now lets check how many Canuck's they have............

Maine hockey started in 1977, its history really began when coach Shawn Walsh took over the program in 1984 and began winning the old-fashioned way, by cheating.

Armed with a lack of morality and a penchant for 24 year-old Canadians, Walsh quickly turned the Blackbears into a national power. NCAA rules be damned, it took less than ten years until Maine won its first National Title in 1993, and for the most part, has been a contender ever since.

Unfortunately, the legacy of Maine hockey and athletics in general is marred with several NCAA violations that would suggest they should be called the "Black marks", not the "Black Bears".

After Maine's historical season that saw them win 42 games and lose just once en route to the 1993 NCAA title, it didn't take long until the NCAA got wind of how U.Maine did its business. The very next season, it was found that Maine players Cal Ingraham and Jeff Tory played while academically ineligible and after an investigation, Maine had to forfeit 14 games and ended up getting credit for just 6 total wins. Since Maine, a true "no-collar institution", has the academic integrity of The Bauder College of Fashion, your superiors are at a loss to understand what one has to do to become academically ineligible from U. Maine.

Like a child who refused to learn its lesson, Maine was caught cheating once again in 1994 when it was discovered that several hockey players were receiving free food in the school cafeteria, a violation of NCAA rules. Your superiors have eaten on campus at U.Maine and truth be told, we wouldn't pay for that detritus, either. Though this would be minor compared to violations to come, it was clear that Shawn Walsh and his cast of crony assistants were finding new and exciting ways to cheat on a daily basis.

As the 1995-96 season got underway, less than a year after Walsh's Blackbears lost to Boink University in the 1995 NCAA final, Maine hockey was competely exposed for several rules violations. On December 12, 1995, it was announced that Maine's hockey program had violated 26 NCAA rules and was immediately banned from the 1996 Hockey East and NCAA Tournaments. Walsh was suspended for one entire year, while minions Grant Standbrook and Greg Cronin were banned from recruiting anywhere off-campus because of several recruiting violations. Without the luxury of recruiting 20-something mercenaries from Parts Unknown, Canada, Maine would take a hit on the ice as well.

Fortunately for Maine hockey, the NCAA violations stopped after coach Walsh died in 2001. His last game behind the bench for the Blackbears was a loss to Boston College in the 2001 NCAA quarterfinals. In one of those "life imitates art" moments, it should be noted that Walsh was kicked out of his last game midway through third period after arguing with referees regarding a penalty call. Few Maine fans realized as he left the bench that night in shame, he had coached his last game.

After battling a nagging shoulder injury 2 years ago in the World Jr.'s Nate Hagemo has ended his Gopher/Hockey career. At 5-11 180Lbs., the blueliner compiled 2-8(10) in his freshmen year at the U. His injury was sustained in a game against Mankato and worsened by a cross check in the Jr tourney in GF. He never recovered. He took to the ice this year and was donning the X jersey that indicates no contact in practice. Although he wore this jersey it is said that he was fairly physical in practice.

This is another blow to the Goof's who were counting on his return and solid style of D. He was the 58th overall pick in the 2005 draft by Carolina. What a terrible way to end your career.

Hagemo said, " We did everything we could to get back to 100 percent, but my shoulder just wasn't getting any better. I can't thank the entire team and staff enough for the support they have given me the last two years."

He will continue to attend the U and finish his degree.

"For anyone that really cares, Hagemo stretched and damage the bundle of nerves called the "Brachial Plexus". That causes intense muscle spasm and weakness that is very debilitating. Hagemo was optomistic on Thursday that he'd feel better playing but obviously wasn't able to take a hit without pain and had lost his shot so hung up the skates instead of doing more damage. There are surgeries to graft nerves for the brachial plexus but Hagemo wasn't a candidate as the diagnosis came too late. He will continue with his Physical Therapy in order to maintain a normal life but his hockey career is over."

I shall try to write a bit about Gopher Hockey. First, I want to clarify that this blog is not to be taken too seriously when it comes to recruiting knowledge, other teams talent and such. I do this solely to vent and be able to wear my "Goldy Goggles" and have fun.

So far most comments have been fun as well as fair. With the exception of someone, who shall remain nameless, that questioned my heterosexual status!

I have taken a few jabs at the supposed Western College Hockey blog. Just a pissed of Maize and Blue fan. I have also taken a few shots at that expert from the range. After listening to his whining while making the call of a hockey game in Duluth I lost all respect for him. I really like reading Goon's "flickertail's" blog and that certain "someone" from tUMD's blog.

After a very pitiful end to the season last year I pretty much stayed away from the usual sites about college hockey to asses my true feelings toward this sport in general! That being said I WILL NOT make any predictions about the players or season because I just do not have the knowledge to make a guess.

Me and "LB" are going to the Hall of Fame game Friday. I hope to instill a little passion about hockey and "teamwork" in my son. He really enjoys hockey (skating) and want to make sure that HE WANTS to do it and that I'm not the frustrated hockey parent pushing him. Truth be told, quitting Junior hockey because of a shoulder injury was the second most devastating thing in my life. If you know me, you can guess the first.

Looking at the schedule, how is it possible not to play SUZIE 4 times? WTF is wrong with the league? I know that both arenas sell out EVERY game but not to have each team visit each other is akin to moving the Pack out of the NFC "Norris" division. I just don't get it. Dump the DU and CC games. Fucking junior colleges!

I am now going to USCHO to rekindle the love on that POS board. Then over to CHN to read the CSTV dunce's comments. Goon's blog will be next then GPL! And to all of you from other team sites...... I fart in your general direction!!!!!!NEET!

In a sad but fitting story from the wonderful East Side. A young Hmong girl has died from picking and eating the "Eastern American Destroying Angel" mushroom which is HIGHLY toxic! Having lived next to a Hmong family for the last ten years this does not surprise me. There eating habits and general hygiene is terrible. I watched as they killed, plucked and ate "squab". Not just any "squab" but pigeon on the Ron Popeil rotisserie grille. I stared at a goat head from my kitchen window for 5 days. I also watched as he layed out 15 carp in the sun for 8 hours and then came back cleaned them and watched in amazement as 30 of them descended on his house and consumed ALL of it after just boiling. Do these people not have taste buds????????

My thought, this was just another way that God is culling the heard!!!!!!

The saga of the house continues... After a unsuccessful period of time trying to sell my house I finally broke down and refinished the hardwood floors in my house this past week.

Man did I go about this ALL WRONG.
When selling your house get it in shape BEFORE it goes on the market. I was a little naive about how long it was going to take. Last year they were bidding on houses like mine, now I can't get an offer! Sure, I have had TONS of showings but not a single offer. We lost the house we had the purchase agreement on. Basically we let the offer expire and 5 days later it sold for 276K. It was listed for 274K and they dropped it 5K so I could drop mine 5K to move it. They were willing to extend the agreement but I was beginning to feel bad about them not able to consider other offers. So the house that I really, really wanted is now gone. After a short period of being down about moving I have started looking at houses again. There are a TON where we want to move but nothing has jumped out at me yet.

If you are thinking of moving...wait a bit longer and you will get a house that is priced right. Maybe this is a good thing for us. Maybe we can get MORE house for less money then we were initially prepared to spend. I just don't want to move in the winter!

What the FUCK is wrong with this state?

Is it me, or is this state full of really FUCKED up people? Two of the most recent "tales" include a group of three boys who decided to dig up the recently buried body of a 20 year old woman who was killed in a motorcycle accident. Their intent was to have sex with the body because she was good looking. LOOK at these backroad hillbilly dorks!!!!! Is it something in the water or in the air or cheese??

The latest report is about a gang rape of an 11 year old girl. ELEVEN YEARS OLD! By an estimated 20 people including a 40 year old man. On top of that, a 16 year old girl watched and told them what sex acts to do to her!! I'm sure this is common news in THAT STATE but I continue to be amazed by the total depraved filth that state produces.

Having had the displeasure of driving around rural Northern Wisconsin while my brother looked for lake property you would be amazed at how out of touch these people are. My brother stopped at what I call a squaters trailer. It was a run down double wide with a "Linnie" sign in the window. Now mind you we were in the middle of NOWHERE by the Minong Flowage. I asked' "what is this?" he replied "a bar" OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was waiting for that chain saw toting, butchers bib wearing mofo to come after us.

Well the BIG scare is done. After a MASSIVE walkout by our beloved ILLEGAL, I REPEAT ILLEGAL aliens, no effects were found. Oh, only one here in St.Paul. It seems that most of West St.Paul was shut down. For those of you who do not know St.Paul, the west side is where THEY reside. Kinda funny the dumbasses shut down their own corner of the world.

I had Taco Johns that nite served by two white kids.

Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the
addition of several new members and to the

The church will host an evening of fine dining, super
entertainment and gracious hostility.

So. In a few past posts I was ranting about the CUNT gang bangers in Murderapolis. Well.... I should have knocked on wood and kept my mouth shut. I stayed home from work Friday because my kid has been battling an ear infection. Beaner had just got home from work. It was about 5:30 pm. She headed out the side door to retrieve something from her Jeep when it happened.

BANG.......BANG........BANG..........BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Four high caliber shots. As I scrambled off the livingroom floor where Sam and I where playing XBOX. I saw a vehicle racing by the front of the house. The next sound was Beaner screaming.

What had happened? Was My family going to be victims of random violence? As I rounded the corner from the living room the side door open and she scrambled in. Screaming and crying. Was she shot?

NO!

She had ducked and ran towards the house. Thankfully she had not yet reached the street and the line of fire. I shut the door and waited.

I then went outside to see my neighbors out on the sidewalk on both sides of the street. To my left was Tom. He just stared down at me with no words or gestures. As I approached him he said "can you believe that?" I asked him what he had seen. He had been working on his wife's car in the street and saw the whole thing.

Two vehicles had turned onto our street. A red Caviler with it rear window shattered. A Blue Chevy mini van with a yeah, you guessed it, young BLACK male hanging out the passenger side firing at the car. As we talked about the shit that had just happened Tom said. "Hey, there should be casings laying up there" We both proceeded to walk the street. Sure as shit. 1 then two. There's another. Where is the fourth? There it is in a driveway.
